MUT TEMPLE STATUE RESTORATION

Capacity: Management and Conservation

DESCRIPTION

Within the Mut Temple in Luxor, there are many statues present that mainly represent the lion headed goddess Sekhmet. These statues have basically the same pose but are in various stages of decay. There are two statue remnants that are unique to the temple. One was a sitting statue of the goddess Sekhmet with a special crown that are unlike the other Sekhmet statues in the temple.

The other statue is a seated royal Dr. Khadija Adam and staff implementing the documentation stage figure that originally depicted Amenhotep III but was later altered and usurped by Ramesses II. Dr. Khadija Adam developed a program to restore these two statues utilizing artificial stone so as to make the repairs permanent but reversable. The outcome was impressive and drew tourists and visitors to the site in conjunction with the opening of Mut Temple to the public
